Task 1 - Unexplored for ~ArtCollective

I've done photo retouching and whatnot in Photoshop, but photomanipulations are something I've sort of avoided so far. I only used one image because I really can't do the whole combining of photos thing. It's frustrating. I see people take, like, 6 completely unrelated and separate images and manage to make these AMAZING scenes with them that look so real. But still. For an early attempt, I think this went well enough! The entire background is digitally painted, as is the hair, but the rest is either edits of color or whatever on the figure.

Hey, don't worry about what the other people can do. This looks really good compared to the majority of deviations on DA. I do have a few suggestions though.

The womans' skirt and bodice seem to stand out more than anything else and I think if you select those objects you can soften their tone a bit.
You might also want to get rid of the two wisps around her skirt and replace them by making them more vertical and maybe wrapping around her feet and waist tapering off just before her shoulders.

You could also fix the perspective a little bit by moving the woman so that her feet are closer to the bottom of the page where you have a lot of negative space right now. If you fiddle with the trees perspective (looking under, faraway, close, over) you'll give the picture much more depth.

Overall it's a very striking image with a lot of possibilities!

Thank you!

I think with the depth and perspective, the biggest issue (that I didn't catch until after I'd uploaded) is that the trees at the front don't LOOK like they're in the front both because I forgot to cut away part of the skirt and because the mist conceals the lower trunk and root areas a little TOO much.

She's supposed to be jumping and spinning as she is in the original image, but without having the trees in the forefront properly balancing it out, it does look like she's way too high up. That's all easy to fix, though. Thank god for layers.

The bodice and skirt actually HAVE been changed about 6 times. I darkened them and changed the colors to be more blue toned to reflect the lighting and colors of the overall image three different times, plus I've manually gone over them with layers of darker color a few times. I do want her to be lighter than the rest of the image, overall, so I'm thinking about messing with the lighting or something closer to her head to help with that balance. I just haven't decided what else I'd want there to draw more attention to the face. I'll play with that a little later, after I fix the trees.

Thank you again for the feedback! It really is appreciated!

Aww, thank you so much! Yeah, I'm still not totally comfortable with them, but it was kind of fun to do something different. :)

No probs! Since she is spinning you could probably add a radial blur on various points on her body.

If it helps any, what I did for this was just skim through some of the stock pictures that had most caught my eye recently and then tried to come up with a "story" or different way of seeing each one, and the stock I used for this was the one where an idea came to mind most easily. From there, it was just a matter of trying to make it fit the idea I had for the background and go from there. If you decide to try one, I'd love to see it! :D

Also, thank you so, so much for the :+fav:! You are so sweet!

I think it looks awesome for a first try! This is far better than my first manip. Nice work. I think the only thing I have to say is about the trees. I think the trees would look a lot better if you put a texture on them. I think only the 2 trees closest to the camera need it though.
